How to incorporate mindfulness into your daily life
We live in a fast-paced, information-filled tech era. Our minds consume news from the time we
wake up and scroll through social media before getting out of bed until the end of the day
when we check our emails and text messages one last time before going to sleep. We are
exposed to anything and everything other people can put in front of usβand the information
overload is overwhelming.
β
One way to stay grounded and reduce stress in our hectic lives is to practice mindfulness on a
daily basis. When we practice mindfulness through meditation or prayer techniques, we focus
all of our attention on the present moment and accept it for how it is. In doing so, we gain a
greater appreciation for the current state of our lives and a more holistic perspective of life.
β
Studies have shown that practicing mindfulness can help us improve our attitudes and
behaviors, which greatly influence our capacity to strengthen our mental and physical health.
Here are three simple ways to incorporate mindfulness into your daily life:
1. Set aside at least ten minutes a day for yourself to do nothing but focus on the present moment. Sit quietly and let your thoughts and emotions come and go. Accept that your
present thoughts and feelings are always temporary.
2. Practice yoga, mindful stretching, or tai chi. These exercises allow us to focus on our
breathing and on our bodies. They help us discover what our minds and bodies need at
the moment.
β
3. Pay attention to what brings you joy and what causes you stress. Accept the things you
cannot control and be kind to yourself and others.
By practicing mindfulness and accepting the present moment, we equip ourselves with a calm
and a positive mindset to help us get through the day!
